Brian Hoekstra, the Founder and Managing Partner of Solavera, has forty years of professional experience in corporate management, business development and M&A as well as extensive technical expertise in materials processing, photonics, solar, display, quantum devices, and semiconductors. Mr Hoekstra was a co-investigator for several NASA space shuttle materials science experiments and attained Manned Space Flight (Astronaut) certification as a Payload Specialist in 1988. He worked on key SDIO (Star Wars) projects and commercial space initiatives during the Reagan administration and performed “zero-gravity” materials experiments as flight test engineer onboard the NASA KC-135. After his military and NASA service, he developed key touch screen innovations for the original iPhone and then spent several years at semiconductor and display production sites in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China and US. He has over 100 publications and patents in the areas of microgravity and materials science, laser processing, solar, and semiconductor manufacturing. He has served as technical advisor, executive or on the board level for clients such as Amtech/Tempress, Skuid, Disney, TRDA (Florida), Clarkson University, II-VI, Coherent, ESI, Gentex, USAF, and NASA. He holds a degree in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and has completed numerous business, technical, and educational training courses.
